For a third year in a row, Drake dominates the BET “Hip Hop Awards” 2016 with 14 impressive nominations for ‘Best Live Performer,’ ‘Lyricist of the Year,’ ‘MVP of the Year,’ ‘Album of the Year,’ ‘Hustler of the Year,’ ‘Made-You-Look Award (Best Hip-Hop Style)’ and as a featured artist in the ‘Sweet 16: Best Featured Verse’, ‘Best Hip-Hop Video,’ ‘Track of the Year,’ ‘People’s Champ Award,’ and 3 nods for ‘Best Collabo, Duo or Group.’
The BET “HipHop Awards” 2016 will be taped on Saturday, September 17, 2016 at its new venue, Cobb Energy Performing Arts Centre in Atlanta, GA, and will premiere on Tuesday, October 4, 2016 at 8:00 p.m. ET.

The BET “HIP HOP AWARDS” has remained the most prominent hip hop showcase on television for ten years with its powerful performances, iconic hip hop honorees and much-anticipated cyphers. Multi-platinum artist, mega-producer and ‘Anthem King’ DJ Khaled hosted hip-hop’s biggest night of the year at The Cobb Energy Performing Arts Centre in Atlanta, GA.
DJ Khaled and Kendrick Lamar tie the lead with three wins each; DJ Khaled wins “DJ of the Year”, “MVP of the Year”, and undoubtedly the “Hustler of the Year” award; Kendrick Lamarwins “Lyricist of the Year”, “Best Live Performer, and “Sweet 16: Best Featured Verse” for his verse in Beyoncé’s “Freedom”. The breakout newcomer, Chance The Rapper, picked up two awards including “Best New Hip-Hop Artist” and “Best Mixtape”. Drake also wins two awards including “Album of the Year” and “Best Hip-Hop Video” for “Hotline Bling”. And Travis Scottis crowned with the “People’s Champ Award”. Kendrick Lamar presented the “I Am Hip Hop” Award to Snoop Dogg whose speech was both politically and emotionally empowering.
Viewers tuned into the hottest performances by T.I. in his moving and politically charged song “We Will Not”; Gucci Mane made his return to the big stage with Travis Scott, Young Thug and Quavo. O.T. Genasis kept the high energy going with his performance and Brooklyn’s own Young M.A. brought the crowd to their feet with “Ooouuu”. LeCrae and Big K.R.I.T. performed “Power of Rap” freestyles that were passionate and thought-provoking. And some of the biggest performances of the night included Lil Uzi Vert, Lil Yachty, 21 Savage, Big Baby D.R.A.M., Dae Dae and Isaiah Rashad.
